Infrared Heating a Village Hall with Summits

Background

Herschel Infrared offers a range of electric heaters for halls, from zero-light to warm-glow solutions, with multiple installation options available. A Village Hall in Bristol, UK, had recently completed a large scale refurbishment, giving the building a modern, attractive look, and needed a new heating solution. Previously, they had been using old infrared heaters that produced high glare and were deteriorating. After the refurbishment, they wanted a new heating system that complemented the updated aesthetic. They were looking for something modern, visually appealing, and preferably zero-light, as glare from their old heaters had caused distractions during events such as film nights and other gatherings.

Village halls host a wide variety of activities, from Scouts, Guides, and Brownies to indoor sports and charity events. For the hall management, it was crucial that the heating solution offered quick warm-up times and sufficient warmth for any activity. Flexibility in controls was also important, including the ability to heat the building remotely via an app, allowing spaces to be comfortably warm before event attendees arrived.

Solution

Several areas in the village hall required heating—the main hall, the storage room, and the entrance. The main hall has nine Summit White non-remote heaters installed, plus one in the separate entrance hall. A white infrared heating panel was installed in the storage room, with thermostat control provided by MD2 thermostats in each space.

Summits installed in Village Hall

Powerful Summit 2600W heaters deliver comfortable warmth with fast warm-up times for the main hall, along with flexible control when paired with an MD2 thermostat. This zero-light solution, in a white finish, provides an unobtrusive heating system that blends seamlessly with the décor while allowing floor space to be fully utilized.

The white infrared panel was mounted on the ceiling to discreetly heat the storage room, maintaining a constant temperature without interfering with storage areas.

MD2 thermostats enable control through the SmartLife app, connected to the on-site WiFi network, creating a flexible heating system that can be easily managed remotely from anywhere.

Testimonial

"The solution seemed to be right for us in terms of the heat output."

We’ve just undergone a two year project to redevelop the hall, we’ve opened up the ceiling space, put new insulation in and made it a lot more pleasant to be in. In terms of heating, the hall is used a lot, but at different times of the day so rather than going for a volumetric heating system we wanted something that provided an instant heat for periods in which the hall was in use, to keep our energy consumption under control. I then got in contact with Matt and the team from Herschel and the solution seemed to be the right solution for us in terms of the heat output. The actual look of the heaters was important to us, previously the hall had radiant heaters which gave off a very red glow which interfered with people’s enjoyment of events, so the white heaters are much more blending in character with the listed hall. The internet’s ability to control the heaters is also very important to us again because of the sporadic hiring plans which means that we can turn the heaters on and turn the heaters off without having to be here before an event and after an event.
