Privacy Policy for users of the Herschel iQ App

Herschel Infrared Ltd are the developers of the Herschel iQ app (“SERVICE”) which is free to download and install.  Use of the SERVICE is provided by Herschel Infrared Ltd at no cost and is intended for use as is with Herschel iQ devices Generation 3 (GEN3) and above.

This page is used to inform users of the SERVICE of our policies for any potential use and disclosure of Personal Information when using the SERVICE.

If you wish to use the Herschel iQ App, then you must agree to allow access by the application to certain technical services on your mobile device.

Information Collection and Use

Whilst Herschel Infrared Ltd does not collect and retrieve any personal data either during download or installation of the SERVICE, nor from its subsequent operation on your mobile device, the SERVICE itself must make use of technical services on your mobile device which include:

  • Use of the phone’s camera (for QR code scanning)
  • The phone’s location
  • The local network to which your iQ Hub is attached
  • Data storage on your device to read and write SERVICE-related data

You must agree to these permissions before the SERVICE will install.

The SERVICE relies on the following third party services that may collect information used to identify you, but this data is not passed to us.

Third party service providers used by the SERVICE:

Herschel is able, via Google Play and Apple Appstore Developer services to view aggregated data about the use of the iQ App (number of downloads). This data is collected by the respective application stores. It is non-personal and helps us improve the delivery of the SERVICE to all our customers.

Log Data

The SERVICE does not store or send Log Data.

Cookies

Cookies are files with a small amount of data that are commonly used as anonymous unique identifiers. These are sent to your browser from the websites that you visit and are stored on your device’s internal memory.

The Herschel iQ SERVICE does not use “cookies”. However, the above-listed third party services will use “cookies” to collect information and improve their own services. Herschel Infrared Ltd makes no use of those 3rd party cookies and your relationship with those third parties is entirely separate from Herschel and governed by Terms and Conditions of those services. However by refusing access to third party cookies on those services, you may be unable to access, download or Install the Herschel iQ App.

Security

The Herschel iQ Hub, iQ devices and iQ App are “Internet of Things” devices and operate securely over the internet using encrypted traffic and in their own right pose no security risk to your local network and do not enable unprotected access to your network from other unauthorised sources.  Herschel iQ devices are furthermore fully tested for resilience to electronic and radio interference and also certified as not being emitters of nuisance signals in their own right. Other services access to your local network and other sources of electronic or radio interference which may cause service disruption are beyond Herschel’s ability to control and by agreeing to these terms, you hereby indemnify Herschel Infrared Ltd from responsibility for service loss or interruption howsoever caused on your local network.

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Thus, you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. These changes are effective immediately after they are posted on this page.
