The Herschel iQ MD2 Wired Thermostat is ideal for new builds/renovations where cabling can be neatly hidden whether it be for domestic or commercial applications. When used in conjunction with your wifi network and the SmartLife app, MD2 can also be controlled remotely via the internet, enabling you to manage your heating when you are away from the building. The SmartLife App also enables control of your heating by voice using Alexa or Google Assistant.

MD2 is wired directly to the mains circuit and the heaters. All MD2 orders include both a plastic surface mount backbox and a metal recessed back box.

The MD2 thermostat will operate your Herschel heater(s) by turning them on if the room temperature is lower than the desired temperature and turning them off once the desired temperature is reached. The MD2 is easy to operate, features a large digital touchscreen display, and incorporates the latest EcoDesign energy-saving features including Herschel’s open window technology.

MD2 has a keypad locking feature to prevent unauthorized tampering making it suitable for commercial applications such as hotels, care homes, student accommodation and let properties.  The MD2 is a 16 amp thermostat enabling up to 3.6 kW of Herschel heaters to be connected.

Note: Herschel iQ controls will only work with Herschel heaters.   *Attempted use with any other heater brand will invalidate the warranty.

The 6kW Soft Start controller is designed to reduce the impact on heaters and electrical circuits of high startup currents that occur when full power to the heaters is switched on instantly.

High inductive loads or “Inrush currents” caused by switching on high power equipment instantly can cause damage to the heaters and can also cause nuisance tripping of circuit breakers. Using a soft start controller will eliminate nuisance tripping and prolong the heater’s life due to the gentler start-up time.

The controller works by gradually applying full power over 5 seconds after the current is first detected by the controller.

The unit can work passively by waiting until the current is detected and soft-starting the heater. This makes it ideal as part of a large installation of heaters where a central control such as a thermostat switches several heaters on and off and the soft-start just responds when it detects the current.  Alternatively, a simple switch can be connected to the unit to activate the current directly to the unit, making it ideal for smaller or domestic installations where the heater can be switched on directly via the soft-start control.  This gives operators a lot of flexibility in how they want to design and control their heating system.
